The Teachers College Survey Research Initiative (SRI) uses student, teacher, and parent surveys to collect data and generate reports on school climate, stakeholder satisfaction/engagement, and 360 principal evaluations. Operated by Teachers College, Columbia University, SRI is managed by knowledgeable and experienced TC faculty who have expertise in survey design, statistics, leadership, education reform, and technology. In collaboration with SRI, states, school districts, schools, and educational organizations can easily survey a variety of stakeholders within the school community. Our mission is to provide K-12 educators, administrators, and policymakers with unbiased, constructive, and timely feedback to help clients with strategic planning and school improvement efforts.
With the recent passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act, SRI is especially well-positioned to help you measure non-academic outcomes, as part of your local accountability plan. We can assist you in understanding what measures to use, and how best to evaluate them. For more information on what ESSA is and how SRI can help, please refer to our EVERY STUDENT SUCCEEDS ACT page.
“The Stakeholder Satisfaction Survey took away the yearly hassle of having to construct and analyze one locally at my sight. It was easy to add or delete any item we felt necessary to give us the information we needed. I found that I could use the data to inform many of our state accountability reporting, including the SARC and LCAP. And parents found it user friendly because they could access online or paper and pencil, in English or Spanish!”
“The survey results are absolutely intriguing and I am so appreciative of your guidance and support in crafting our survey questions. Over time, we will see how our concerns trend. I am also very pleased with the seemingly honest feedback and comparison across prior years. This is SOOO helpful as we refine our goals based on stakeholder feedback and implement intervention/enrichment for the following years.”
“The online survey we developed with Teachers College/Columbia University gives us timely and relevant data about our programs’ impact on students and teachers. It helps us to be responsive while continually improving quality.”
“This was a great, customized tool for our leadership team to take an objective look at the school program during our annual strategic planning and budgeting. Being able to aggregate responses in a numeric way allowed us to look at trends in the data, while the free response, ensured that we had the context to make informed, strategic decisions in terms of forward planning. This survey allowed our parents to feel a part of the decision making process. Not only were the data timely for our use in strategic planning, the final report was publication ready and we posted it on our school’s website to ensure transparency with our community."
“It has been a good partnership with TCSRI. It was easy to share our thoughts, ask questions and get feedback. The most valuable parts of the survey for me were the open ended comments and how we can use this data to improve in areas we didn’t know were concerning to stakeholders, especially students. The divergent perspectives on what remote learning was like for different stakeholders was most interesting and eye opening. The process for developing the survey was well organized and no pressure was ever applied. We received timely feedback from your team and our feedback was incorporated in the final survey. Your team gave us great suggestions on how we could reach our participation goals and we were satisfied with the high number of stakeholders responding to the survey. We look forward to developing future surveys with TCSRI.”
